Every dog has a story—and we want to tell yours.

Imagine flipping through the pages of an international book—and seeing your dog's face smiling back at you. One of only a few pets chosen from our community.

Now’s your chance!

Tails of the World is an international photography book that shines a spotlight on dogs and the people who love them, capturing their personalities against the backdrop of their hometowns, from cozy neighborhoods to Northern Michigan’s stunning shores—all while supporting animal rescues locally and globally.

Tails of the World has already raised over $170,000 for rescue organizations, and this year, you and your best friend can be part of that impact right here in Northwestern Michigan.

By participating, you’re not just creating a gorgeous portrait—you’re helping pets in need. You’ll create memories you’ll treasure for a lifetime, all while giving another dog the second chance they deserve.

Meet Your Photographer

And your dog’s new biggest fan!

For the third year running, Amanda Lewis Photography is honored to serve as the official Northwest Michigan photographer for Tails of the World.

As an award-winning pet photographer, certified pet loss grief specialist, and lifelong animal lover, Amanda’s mission is to celebrate the bond we share with our pets—and help give more animals a second chance. With a patient, pet-first approach, she captures joyful, natural portraits that tell the story of your best friend’s life and legacy.

Giving back is at the heart of Amanda’s work. Through projects like her annual calendar contests—raising over $23,000 in just the last two years—Amanda uses her photography to support local rescues and animal charities. She’s proud to contribute to efforts like Tails of the World and other initiatives that make a real difference for pets in need across Northern Michigan and beyond.

The Experience

Your dog deserves to be celebrated.

During your session, we’ll capture your dog just as you know and love them: joyful, curious, maybe a little goofy, and completely themselves. There’s no pressure to perform—just belly rubs, treats, and a tail-wagging good time.

After the session, you’ll be invited to view the portraits we’ve created and choose how you’d like to enjoy them. Many participants turn their favorite images into artwork for their home—pieces that make them smile every single day.

From framed prints to handcrafted albums and stunning wall art, there’s truly something for everyone. Artwork begins at $450 for small products and print bundles, with wall art starting at $695. There is no obligation to purchase, but if you fall in love with your portraits (and we think you will!), we’ll help you find the perfect way to honor your best friend.

And of course, one of your portraits will be chosen for inclusion in the Tails of the World book—a beautiful, internationally published keepsake featuring dogs from across the globe.

Questions? We’ve got you (and your dog) covered.

  • All dogs from all backgrounds are welcome to apply!

  • Absolutely. Most of the dogs I photograph are on-leash during our sessions. With the magic of Photoshop, I am able to remove them during post-processing.

  • This experience is for all personality types! Your dog does NOT need to be the most well-trained, well-behaved dog to participate. I have many tricks up my sleeve to get beautiful images of your dog, no matter their obedience level.

  • There are only 10 exclusive Tails of the World sessions available. That means only one dog per application will be chosen. If you would like to submit more than one dog to be considered for the project, please apply for each individual dog. If accepted and you’d like to include more than one dog in your session, you are welcome to upgrade to the extended session experience!

All accepted applicants will have the option to upgrade to an extended session for an additional fee of $95. The extended session allows for more flexibility in location and scheduling, the option to include additional dogs from your household, and a $200 credit toward artwork.

Please note that only the accepted dog is guaranteed to be featured in the book.

  • Sessions will be scheduled on select dates in May, June, and July 2025. Sessions will be held roughly 2 hours before sunset. Exact locations are TBD but will take place in from Traverse City to Harbor Springs, in beautiful locations showing off the area’s beauty!

  • Absolutely. If this is something you’re looking for, you will want to upgrade to the extended session to allow for enough time to create portraits alongside your dog.

Please note that only dogs will be submitted to be featured in Tails of the World, but these types of portraits make for wonderful memories to cherish the special bond your share with your dog!

  • Absolutely! There’s no obligation, but most pet parents love the chance to turn their favorite images into stunning, one-of-a-kind artwork.

At Amanda Lewis Photography, I specialize in creating heirloom-quality pieces that celebrate the joy and magic your pet brings into your life—and the special bond you share.

After your session, we’ll schedule a virtual image reveal and ordering appointment where I’ll help you choose your favorite portraits and design any custom artwork you’d like for your home. You only purchase what you love, and I’ll be there to help every step of the way.

Small products and print bundles begin at $450, and wall art starts at $695. Your total investment depends on how many images you love and how you choose to enjoy them.
